- Ohio lawmakers are pushing for earlier resident notification regarding potentially contaminated water. Legislators cited the recent contamination in Flint, Michigan, as the reason for demanding a quicker response.

- Peru declared an emergency in a jungle area that was formerly a gold mine. The mining caused mercury contamination in local rivers, fish, and residents.
- A new study of Pennsylvania residents shows that those surveyed are more accepting of hydraulic fracturing if their city receives impact fees for fracking operations.
- A county in England approved its first fracking permit since 2011. The announcement pushed shale stocks up 25 percent.
- Fishermen in Nigeria are asking for compensation after an oil spill disrupted their business.
- A new bill going through Congress would allow the EB-5 Immigrant Investor Program to continue, but it would also make it more difficult for applicants to get approved. The measure is aimed at curtailing fraud.
- New Mexico has sued the federal government over its handling of the Gold King Mine spill, which sent heavy metals into the Animas River last year.
- Railroad companies are dealing with a drop in business thanks to a decrease in oil and coal shipments across the country.
- TransCanada has been ordered to clean up the construction sites for the Keystone XL Pipeline expansion. President Obama denied the application for the pipeline, effectively killing it.
