- Illinois reached a settlement agreement with BNSF Railway Company over the 2015 train derailment near Galena, Illinois. The railroad company will pay $50,000 in civil penalties, in addition to the more than $10.5 million spent on cleaning up the spill.
- Nevada lawmakers continue to discuss raising the state’s minimum wage. A bill currently up for debate would raise the minimum wage to $15 if passed.
- Residents in Dumfries, Virginia, are worried that their water source could have been contaminated with coal ash from a nearby power plant.
- Researchers in Pennsylvania will soon be releasing the results of their investigation into earthquakes that occurred near hydraulic fracturing operations in the state.
- Home prices are increasing faster in London than in other parts of the country. Over the last 20 years, home prices in London were increasing twice as fast as everywhere else in England.
- After the U.S. House of Representatives passed a resolution to overturn a federal rule on limiting methane, the Senate could vote on it as early as next week.
- TransCanada refiled its application in Nebraska to build a portion of the Keystone XL Pipeline through the state.
- Legislators in North Carolina are considering limiting the government’s ability to use eminent domain to seize private property. The bill passed the N.C. House, and it is now awaiting a vote by the Senate.
- A federal judge refused to dismiss a lawsuit against 3M and other companies that alleges the defendants poured hazardous materials into the Tennessee River.
