SEATTLE, Washington and CARTERSVILLE, Georgia – Greenfield Advisors provided the analysis and principle expert testimony for the prevailing side in a lawsuit listed as number 20 on VerdictSearch.com’s list of the Top 100 Verdicts of 2015.

In Chase Barfield, et al., v. Sho-Me Power Electric Cooperative, et al., landowners in Missouri argued that Sho-Me Power Electric Cooperative and its subsidiaries installed fiber optic lines across their property without permission, and the utility company did not pay them rent for using their land. Dr. John A. Kilpatrick, Greenfield Advisors’ Chairman and Co-Managing Director, was the key expert witness in the federal class action lawsuit.

“We’ve applied one or more of Greenfield’s Mass Appraisal Models successfully in a number of recent projects, and it’s gratifying each time we’re able to use these tools to aid our clients,” Dr. Kilpatrick said.

Based on Greenfield Advisors’ analysis and Dr. Kilpatrick’s testimony, the jury awarded Barfield and the other 3,500 property owners approximately $79 million. This amount is intended to cover leases for the fiber optic cable easement over a ten-year period.

“This also re-affirms our team approach to projects such as this one,” said Dr. Kilpatrick. “When I step into a courtroom, our clients know that they have the entire Greenfield team backing me up and providing top-flight analyses. While this particular case hinged on our Greenfield Corridor Valuation Model, it re-affirms the use of related mass appraisal tools such as our Greenfield Automated Valuation Model and Credibility Assessment Model, which we’ve applied successfully in parallel projects.”

Each year Verdictsearch.com examines hundreds of court cases across the country to put together the list of the Top 100 Verdicts of the year. Greenfield Advisors has provided expert testimony and litigation support in a wide range of cases that involve real estate or economic disputes.

“While litigation support isn’t the only thing Greenfield does, it really is what we’re best known for,” said Dr. Kilpatrick. “Of course, this is all about our clients, and we’re pleased that we can aid our clients in a successful outcome.”
